Regional field notes

Levels 40–50

An expansive desert of copper-colored sand and wind-carved glass canyons where ancient Architect vaults rise and sink beneath the shifting dunes.

North of the Brass-Coast, in the rain-shadow under the Frost-Chime Peaks, lies Kal-Zir. Here the sand itself is composed of microscopic grains of bronze and amber quartz. When the desert wind blows, the dunes emit a low, musical hum like a thousand bowed cellos, allowing nomadic clans and travelers to ride sleek Sand-Skiffs that glide effortlessly over the vibrating slopes.

Beneath these shifting sands lies the largest concentration of pre-Striking ruins in Kaelvorn. All three factions have established fortified oasis outposts across the basin, racing against ruthless tomb-raiders and Corsair smugglers to excavate ancient acoustic weapons before encroaching glass-storms from the north seal the desert forever.

    Landmarks of the Copper Waste

    • Landmark 1 — The Mirage-Bazaar: A bustling neutral Wayfarer Lantern oasis built inside the hollowed-out ribcage of a prehistoric desert Leviathan, housing black-market traders, bounty boards, and the famous dueling rings.
    • Landmark 2 — The Buried Ziggurat of Kal: An untouched pyramid of black basalt and burnished gold uncovered by a recent glass-storm, predating the First Striking.
    • Landmark 3 — Wind-Harp Canyon: A deep red-stone gorge where desert winds play hundred-foot bronze wires stretched taut between the cliff faces by the ancients.
    • Landmark 4 — The Glass-Blown Wastes: A perilous northern sub-region where fallout from the Pale Wake and raw Sun-Pitch have fused the dunes into razor-sharp sheets of singing glass.

        The Buried Ziggurat of Kal

A recent glass-storm stripped away a mile-high dune in deep Kal-Zir, uncovering an untouched pyramid of black basalt and gold that predates the First Striking. Inside, the halls are governed by ancient gravitational and acoustic traps: rooms rotate when bells are struck, sand waterfalls flow upward, and the mummified Voices of Kal guard the truth of what Kaelvorn looked like before the Canopy was broken.

        The Dune-Grinder

A three-hundred-foot mechanical sand-worm left over from the Concordance War that swallows entire oasis camps to fuel its furnace belly.

Lean, athletic, and coiled like a panther (around five feet ten inches), with a sharp V-shaped upper torso, billowy desert trousers gathered into bronze shin-greaves, a long flowing saffron scarf trailing two yards behind him, and twin deeply curved scimitars held in reverse and forward grips.

Sun-bronzed human skin in his late twenties; sharp cheekbones with a warm, cocky half-smile; striking copper-gold eyes lined with dark desert kohl against sun-glare; tousled, shoulder-length jet-black hair swept back by a braided leather headband set with an amber prism; a faint white scar across the bridge of his nose.

An open-chested vest of supple cinnamon-brown dune-drake leather reinforced with overlapping scales of hammered rose-gold and copper; asymmetrical pauldrons made from curved bronze wind-harp ribs; silk waist-sashes in vibrant saffron yellow and deep indigo.

Hammered Copper, Saffron Yellow, Deep Indigo, and Cinnamon Brown.

Sol-Edge and Dune-Song, a matched pair of thirty-inch curved scimitars with blades of translucent golden Amber-glass fused into serrated bell-bronze spines; three tuning-slots cut along the flat of each blade whistle and glow like furnace slits when swung.

Crouched low on one knee mid-slide across copper sand, body twisted forward, both curved glowing sabers crossed in an "X" in front of his face as sparks of orange and violet light fly from the point where the two blades touch.

Sweeping crescent arcs of mirage heat-shimmer and fiery saffron-gold light that linger in the air behind his sword swings like glowing ribbons, accompanied by sharp, metallic ringing harmonics.

        Kaelen Vos — The Sun-Blade

A lightning-fast desert dervish whose twin curved bronze blades hum at opposing frequencies, slicing through crystal armor and igniting the air with ribbons of solar heat.

        Melee Damage Dealer (High-Tempo Dual-Wielding & Acoustic Bleed/Shatter)

A tall, androgynous, strikingly elegant Auralin figure with pale moonlit-bronze skin, long pointed ears, and waist-length silver hair floating upward in zero-gravity, dressed in flowing high-collared robes of deep midnight-indigo silk trimmed with burnished gold astrolabe rings; they stand calmly as boulders float around them, drawing a long golden bow across the taut bronze strings of a vertical cello-like staff that projects razor-sharp waves of violet and amber light.

        Lioren Noct — The Dusk-Chord

A blindfolded Auralin acoustic scholar who excavated the buried vaults of Kal-Zir, wielding a lethal bow-staff strung with ancient Architect wire that bends gravity and slices foes with visible chords of violet twilight.

A graceful, barefoot Auralin woman with warm copper-brown skin tattooed with glowing golden harmonic lines, dark eyes, and a hooded mantle of shimmering rose-gold desert silk and tinkling bronze coin-chimes; she stands with arms outstretched in a canyon as two ten-foot-tall humanoid warrior-statues formed of swirling metallic copper sand and glowing amber glass rise out of the ground on either side of her, mimicking her exact stance.

        Asha Renn — The Mirage-Caller

A mysterious desert oracle whose voice can command the metallic copper sands of Kal-Zir to rise into towering bronze-and-glass avatars that fight alongside her and refract her spells across the battlefield.
