"Stand behind the bronze, little bird. Let the storm break its teeth on me first."

If you walk the Viaduct of Ten Chords toward the white limestone steps of High Solitude, every mason and caravan guard knows the name Valen Korr. Standing nearly eight feet tall, with slate-grey Korvath skin grained like mountain limestone and a silver-white beard bound in gold clasps, Valen is the living exemplar of The Bell-Warden—the premier frontline Tank Calling of the Solaris Bastion.

Long before the First Spire cracked, Valen earned his title during the Corsair raids of 598 FS. When a saboteur’s bomb blew out the central keystone arch of the Viaduct, Valen wedged his own broad shoulders between the collapsing masonry and a crowded pilgrim carriage, holding forty tons of stone in place for twenty minutes until Sun-Smiths welded bronze struts beneath him.

When Sol-Vara ruptured in 609 FS, Valen was at the base of the mountain. As the first wave of Dead-Pitch silence swept downward, he drove his five-foot concave bell-bronze tower shield, Toll of Aethel, into the rock and struck its inner rim with his war-mace, Gavel of the Tenth Chord. The golden acoustic dome he rang saved nineteen young recruits huddled behind him—but the edge of his own shield caught the silver fallout, freezing his left wrist and hand into permanent, unfeeling white porcelain.

When you play a Bell-Warden in Kaelvorn, you embody that exact defiance. Rather than dodging away from heavy boss mechanics, you plant your boots and invite the impact:

Valen marches north not only to defend the Steppe, but because his dearest comrade—High Commander Veyra—walked willingly into the Pale Wake. In the Sol-Vara raid, he will have to face her again.

  • The Unbroken Bastion Branch turns you into an immovable anvil. Using Brace the Arch, you reduce incoming damage by 40%, become immune to knockbacks and petrification, and Drink in Bell-Charge with every hit. Follow a block immediately with Counter-Toll to blast a 900-damage sonic cone that stuns packs and wraps you in a 2,200-health Amber Barrier.
  • The Resonant Bulwark Branch projects the protection of a Chime-Spire over your party. Chord of Sanctuary drops a 12-meter golden dome that makes allies immune to Dead-Pitch Calcification stacks, while Guard the Pilgrim lets you leap 20 meters to intercept a lethal blow aimed at your healer.
  • The Earth-Shaker Branch commands positioning. Magnetic Pitch rings a sub-audible note that drags six ranged enemies straight into your shield, setting up your Tier-4 Ultimate, Sundering Cadence, to shatter their armor for +15% party damage.
